Mary Ann (Cooper) Smith was born and raised in this unique African American community, and her heart dwells there too. Originally established by nine freed slave families, a thriving settlement grew in population to hundreds of people. McIntyre now stands with under ten residents. As a descendant of the Cooper Family, one of the original nine families, Mary Ann hopes to change that. Along McIntyre Road plunges readers into Mary Ann's story, traveling into the recent and distant past to examine the birth, growth, and erosion of the once-busy village of McIntyre. A History of the Ohio Boys’ Scholastic State Basketball Tournament The “Golden Age” of boys’ scholastic basketball became a cultural touchstone for two generations of scholastic Buckeye basketball fans in a colossal inaugural event at Ohio State University’s St. John Arena in 1957, climaxing the annual tournament heartbreak highway in dramatic fashion. This project is volume V in a multi-volume series detailing the history of the Ohio boys’ scholastic state basketball tournament. Announcing: Scio Branch Manager Ashley Smith Scio Branch Library is excited to welcome Ashley Smith as its new Branch Manager! Ashley, who previously served as the Children’s Librarian for 8 years, is thrilled to return to the library system in this new leadership role. She brings a passion for books and a commitment to fostering community through the library programs. Ashley is committed to creating an inviting space where families and individuals of all ages can come together and discover the magic of reading. “The library is a place where the world fades away, and you can get lost in stories,” she says. Ashley’s vision for Scio Branch Library is to continue making it a welcoming place for the community, offering a space where everyone can connect, learn, and grow. We’re thrilled to have Ashley leading the way! Fun facts about Ashley: she loves pizza and enjoys a variety of drinks, including sugar-free Red Bull and Diet Dr. Pepper.
